He/Him/His

Now taking Saturday appointments – We all want to live a fulfilling life, and that looks different for everyone. I enjoy working with clients who know they want to move forward in their life, but are unsure how to do it.

That uncomfortable feeling could stem from trauma or negative experiences at the hands of the person or people who you were raised by or the environment you grew up in. This may have resulted in you feeling stuck in relationships or a profession. It’s okay to not know what is holding you back from the life you know you deserve. I’m here to explore that with you and help facilitate the change you want.

I can help by listening to your story and collaborating with you on what might be impacting the quality of life you want. I can give you the space you need to be able to open up on your terms. Sessions are about you, and what you feel you need to move in the direction you want. I’m willing to ride those waves with you, and go at your pace.

I care about people and won't give up on them. I respect their beliefs and where they come from. I want to help them reach their goals and heal what's hurting them.

I'm constantly seeking ways to expand my knowledge and skills through continued education and working with clients directly. This involves enhancing my skills in acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive behavioral techniques, dialectical behavior therapy, and attachment work. I'm dedicated to staying updated on the latest research, innovative therapies, and the societal effects of new technologies like electronic screen syndrome.

I think it's amazing how new technology and research can prove what we already know and teach us new things about the brain, healing, and trauma.

I strongly believe in the client's right to self-determination and agency to choose what's best for them.

I find one of the most exciting things about mental health is cutting-edge technology and research that helps prove what we have long known about the brain, trauma, and healing. I also like that we're increasing our knowledge in areas we need help understanding.

I think it's amazing how new technology and research can prove what we already knew and teach us new things about the brain, healing, and trauma.

In my journey to becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), I had opportunities to work in a variety of medical, community agencies, not-for-profit, religious, volunteer, and educational settings such as the Clark County School District and the College of Southern Nevada.

The populations I worked or volunteered with included at-risk families, teenagers, children, LGBTQ+, those in foster care, prisoners, nursing home residents, transgender, and immigrants (Pacific Islander, Hispanic, Chinese, Filipino).

I have an Associate’s Degree in Education from BYU, a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from UNLV, and a Master’s Degree in Social Work with a Clinical focus from UNLV.

Additionally, I have lived experience with family members with bipolar disorder, anxiety and OCD, abuse and neglect, dementia, neurodiversity (autism, ADHD, giftedness), LGBTQ+, and addictions.

Note

A Message of Hope from Carina

I aim to help people understand, explore, and heal from painful experiences such as grief, loss, trauma, and challenging life transitions. Sometimes our work involves assessing the situation, providing referrals, or collaborating with schools or other community resources. Establishing new boundaries with oneself or others can also be a starting point.

People sometimes know they need to make a change but are unsure how or where to begin. It’s a humbling privilege to support people in finding their way during this journey. I’m grateful for the trust and faith people place in our collaborative work.

I’m fortunate to be part of your journey, whether short or long, as you seek healing, find meaning, and experience joy in your life.

As a licensed clinical social worker in Las Vegas, I offer psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults.

My approach to therapy is integrative and holistic, considering how experiences impact present functioning. I tailor evidence-based approaches to each individual’s needs.

Regardless of why you seek therapy, I aim to create a warm, safe, and trusting space. I believe the therapeutic relationship is essential for meaningful change in therapy.

Our goal is to provide a safe, supportive, and skilled approach as you navigate your journey of healing. We use exploration to respect and support all people’s beliefs and identities.

“We may laugh together, we may cry together; may we find peace and connection  and healing together.”

With love,

Carina Barnum, LCSW
